"No, he's busy dating the guy who set me up and got me sent to fucking prison so we aren't really gonna be talking." He sighed and removed his puppets, stuffing them inside his jacket pocket and coming up behind Leonard to see what he was doing. "He didn't believe me. I don't like when people don't believe me. What could I have even of gained from lying? It's so unfair."
With a huff, he tilted his head to the side and frowned at the blueprints. "So this is the place we're hitting?" James hmmed a little and tilted his head.
"I don't know. What could you have gained from telling the best friend you're secretly in love with that a guy who's interested in him is being a creep who set you up? Beats me." What irked him was that he even knew that much about the situation already, but whatever. It just seemed to come with the territory.
"If you let me focus on it, yeah. You don't really need to see this, I'll tell you what to do."
"It's just unfair that he'd think I'd do that. Any of that. I'm a good boy, I always have been and I always will be. I don't hurt people unless I have to, I certainly don't aim to kill and I wouldn't steal from people I like. And up until all that shit, I liked the people at STAR labs." Which meant that this whole thing was just insanely unfair because Hartley just ignored all of his pre-established rules and went right on ahead to believing that psycho Wells over him.
"As long as you don't give me some dumbass job like look out. If that's my job then please, God, tell me now so I can't say no." He didn't do look out. Not now, not ever. "Also no roofs."
"Whatever you say, JJ. But even you should know that given that believing that other guy is getting him laid, he'd go with that option." Men really weren't that difficult to predict. "He still bailed you out of prison, didn't he? Can't be that mad at you."
Len rolled his eyes and shook his head. "Don't worry. I know how to make use of you. Just make sure you don't mess up. Ever again."
"The lying bastard who got me sent to jail bailed me out and then did so by making a whole show of what a hero he was and how he was being nice to me. It was creepy." James huffed and then grabbed a chair, not taking any signals to go away from Leonard and instead sitting beside him, looking at Leonard with a vague pout. "The guy is unhinged. You know when you look at someone and they just seemed, I don't know, empty inside? I got that vibe from him. Then he just kept coming in to see me and telling me all these gross homo deets about him and Hartley."
Gross because he was clearly manipulating him, otherwise it was kinda hot. "I didn't mess up, Mick did."
"I don't care if you're trying to frame my partner through an elaborate scheme or with a pathetic puppet show. You ever do it again and you're dead." That should be clear enough. Len liked to make sure the lines were clear.
"This would also be more convincing if you hadn't spend the other day telling me about what a creepy loser Hartley's first boyfriend was. You're possessive, got it. If you can't give your partner what he needs, you have to learn how to share." Len shrugged and scribbled down a note. "Although his current one does seem like a creep. I'll admit that."
"Killing the people who work for you is just kind of dumb. I mean making a mistake needs punishment, sure, but if you kill your own then you don't instil loyalty, you make everyone on edge and it's kinda dumb cause you'll run out of help." It just seemed like a slightly stupid idea to shoot just about everyone. Leonard was already getting a rep, people were scared to work for him. Especially since the last crew all wound up dead.
"I'm not possessive, I just hate his taste in men. He should just stick to having a crush on me, I was good for him. Mostly. I took care of him anyway. I mean, yeah, no, I wasn't gay then but maybe I'm a little now." He shrugged, fiddling around playfully with one of his shiny shirt buttons. "I googled it and apparently you can be straight but also into dudes."
"I repeat: If you ever try to frame my partner again, you're dead. I don't need your opinion on how I conduct business, but if you try to mess with him, you're done." Leonard didn't need true loyalty from anyone other than Mick. Not as if he'd ever trust anyone else anyway.
"How was having a crush on you good for him again? Because I remember the very moving play you put on where you kissed him, then called him a faggot and kicked him out so he wound up homeless on the street in the middle of the night." Len looked up and smiled, shaking his head. "No, Tricks. You can't be."
"He was already homeless! He was pre-homeless. We weren't living together or anything. That was never a thing." He just let Hartley crash on his floor in exchange for doing things for him, it was always a business thing. He and Axel had a contract, he and Hartley had a maybe sometimes deal going on and the kid had to learn to find somewhere else to sleep eventually because there was no such thing as a consistent place to crash when you weren't kicking in to the rent. "And he made the kiss gay and I freaked!"
Yes, Hartley somehow made the kiss between two men that was totally not gay magically gay. Somehow. "You can too. And I am. I'm a straight dude who sometimes digs the guys."
"Doesn't really change that you kicked your best friend out without warning, just because he turned you on. That's harsh." Len decided that, yes, at least this was amusing. It wasn't as if he had that good a track record when it came to not bailing out of situations like that, but at least he'd never been this bad.
"That's called bisexual, genius. Though I've never seen you dig the ladies, so maybe you've some soul-searching to do."
"I'm aware but it happened and we made up. We were fine. Then Wells happened." Creepy son of a bitch. "And I know that sometimes I lie and all but he legitimately didn't believe me. Not a single thing I said. Am I that untrustworthy? Did I hurt him that much that he can't even believe me when I tell him the truth?" James huffed a little and leaned back in his chair, wishing he knew how to reach Hartley, wishing he was less hurt and upset. Maybe he could talk to him and warn him away.
"I don't have much time around women." Which was kind of true. "I used to have a bit of a thing for the bearded lady." ... Wait, that wasn't helping his case much.
"If that Wells person is as much of a creep as he says, who knows what else he's told him? I don't know. Just knock your friend out and tie him to a chair somewhere until he stops letting a creep use him." What? Seemed like a sensible approach to him. He'd certainly do similar things to keep Mick from hurting himself.
"Right. You should just head out with Mick sometimes. He's good with women."
"Nah, that's make me a creep and then he'd hate me even more. I'll just wait. And when he comes crawling back I'll be all 'no way, you had your chance' and that'll really show him." Show him what? James had no idea. He got to his feet and shoved his hands in his pockets, sensing that Leonard wasn't going to offer him much more help outside of that. Goodie.
"Maybe I will. Me and the Mickster, hitting up the ladies. Lock up your daughters and all of that." He could so pull a girl. Maybe he would. That'd show Snart what's what.
"Yes. You go do that, this won't be ready for another night. Tell Mick that his drinks are on me." Len looked up again, raising his eyebrows. "I don't have a daughter, but if you touch my sister, you're dead."
Hey, as far as he knew Lisa wasn't even in town, but that was beside the fact. He knew when to be draw his lines.
"I won't. Promise." Maybe? He had no idea who was Leonard's sister but he felt pretty confident he wouldn't take her home. Mostly because he'd never taken a girl home or even so much as been with a girl. Hey, he'd be the first to admit it, he wasn't good with girls. He could charm them, he could flirt but when it got close to something real, he bailed. He always bailed.
"Sure you will." With talk like that, at least less likely. But James was handsome and could be charming, so why not? Apart from the fact how he was obviously just hung up on one guy, who was somewhere across town getting fucked by the man that had framed James. No wonder Mick was so entertained by this.
