"If he fists me to death, you're going to feel bad. And I'm going to haunt all your asses." Axel pouted as he shuffled away from Hartley, moving his hand off and watching the other, slowly finishing the toast he'd stolen. "Have you got better offers? From who?" Hartley had chances at scoring? Not good. As soon as Hartley found someone, he'd probably stop helping him, it wasn't like he really enjoyed helping him lately. Not for a while now. Not since everything.
Axel looked at his arms and frowned, looking at Mick while pulling a face. "I tried, I don't get much more ripped than this. I'm wiry."
"A shrimp," Leonard agreed, shrugging, "Still bigger than me."
"You just don't want to lose twink status, Walker, gotta be honest with us."
Hartley focused on eating, finally looking at Axel with raised eyebrows. "I think everyone's a better offer than you, honestly. What's in it for me with you, except feeling like an idiot? I don't enjoy feeling like an idiot. I'm not an idiot. So you could really just stop offering and be glad I don't actually want to see you dead or you would be."
"The more boys that like me, the less likely I die in here. Sue me, I'm looking at a long time here and I want to make it kind of easy." He didn't think picking fights would help him and he wasn't sure if he could get half as strong as a guy like Mick, seemed easier to just roll over and play good boy that start anything.
"Someone stayed bitter."
Axel huffed and dropped his head in his hand, giving Hartley a bored expression. "For the last time, I didn't know what they were going to do, they just told me to do it and I did. It was nothing personal." Axel always did what someone bigger and stronger told him to do. That was how he survived. "I've been betrayed way worse than that and I don't hold half the grudge you do."
"Maybe that's why I get respect and you don't." Hartley leaned forward, putting one hand between Axel's legs and probably brushing against his crotch. Whatever. He caught his eyes and smiled, even if it wasn't a very friendly smile. "I respect myself. You don't even know what your self is."
"Break it up, children." Leonard spoke up from across the table and Hartley pulled back, rolling his eyes. Meanwhile Len looked at Axel, deciding to change the topic. "How's your new cellmate?"
"I want to stay alive, moron. Get over your pathetic bleeding heart, I did what I had to do. Get the fuck over it." Axel shoved him off and while he wanted to move him away, if he got too far off, he might give the wrong impression and he could still feel the guys eyes on the back of his head. He resisted the urge to hit Hartley and crossed his arms instead, looking at Leonard and shrugging.
"Annoying as fuck." What? That was the best summary he could give to him. "Have you met him yet? Oh man. You will know if you meet him."
"Tell me." Leonard pulled one leg up to sit more comfortably, turning so he could prop his elbow on the table. He was passably interested, but mostly he just didn't want this kind of tension while eating and Hartley now destroying his food with all the rage he could muster was distracting enough. Slightly amusing, but distracting.
"Well, he practically had to crawl into his cell yesterday because he got his ass kicked so hard. He's like this scrawny little loser and he's trying to hang with the big dogs and I have no idea why. I warned him, I did my part, now I'm just watching it unfold." Axel shrugged his shoulders. There was no saving an idiot and this kid was an idiot. "He can't be older than me, he was sent in for theft and dealing. Not exactly a high roller."
"Point him out to me some time." Mick glanced at Len, but then just shrugged and Len finished his food. "Walk with Axel, Mick." There, that was the ultimate offer of protection from both Len and Mick, even if it was a short-term thing. Still worth more than anyone else could offer.
Hartley lowered his voice, turning to Axel. "If you want something from me again, then just ask for a favour. Don't act like you want me."
"He's the kid who looks like he's in a lot of pain from getting his ass kicked but is still somehow smiling. Act fast if you want him, three guys have staked claim and they mean business." There were already plans to jump him but Axel didn't think he could do anything to stop it so he was just going to let it happen. "Oh cool, buddying up with Mick."
Axel would have grinned more but Hartley was back at this whole guilt thing and God, was he ever going to let up? "I did want you. I still want you. Neither of those are lies."
"Didn't say it was. I'm just not fucking interested, so don't act as if I would be." Hartley shrugged and got up, not really sure why he should hang around now that Axel had Mick to take care of him. "See you around."
That said he left and Len watched him for a few moments before tilting his head at Axel. "You must have hidden charms if he's so into you."
"Well hidden," Mick agreed, pulling Len's tray closer so he could finish up his food, "Who wants the new kid?"
"He doesn't get that I literally had no choice. I had to screw him over. People knew I liked him." People who had claims on Axel didn't like him liking people, they sought to ruin it as soon as they saw it. If Axel had hung on, it would have gotten worse, being that cold made distance and distance kept Hartley safe. "This is more merciful. He hates me but I kept him safer in the end, better than if he tried to stick with me."
Like two guys like them could ever date. Whatever. Like Mick and Len cared.
"Tony, Danton and that super creepy dude Hunter." Axel listed off, he tended to know a lot about this kind of stuff, he hung in all the right groups. "He's pretty, he's naive, he seems kinda smart. Easy target really."
"I'll have a look at him." Leonard wasn't sure why, mostly he just needed the entertainment. He watched Mick eat like this food actually tasted good, expression softening for a moment before he got up. "I'm heading to the library. See you back home."
Home, cell, whatever. Mick waved a cheerful goodbye and turned to Axel with a full mouth, pointing at Hartley's abandoned tray. "You still eating that, kid?"
"Home? That's so cute. My home has an uber nerd in it right now, less cute." Axel huffed because he really never seemed to have much luck with cell mates. From the nazi to the kid that committed suicide to the last one that fucked him in his sleep of all things and now this guy. Great. "I swear to God, if this one kills himself, it better not be on my damn bad."
With a huff, Axel slid the tray over to Mick and offered him a shrug. "Go for it, dude, it's not mine."
"I need to eat lunch with scrawny kids more, maybe I'll actually get full for a change." Mick seemed very happy with himself and the world, only lifting his shoulders at Axel's complaints. "Maybe you can get to fuck him for a change. You're into that, aren't you?"
No judgement, evidently. "Just ask, maybe he's up for it."
"I don't think he's into me. It's hard to tell. He's so -- I don't even know. He's like a puppy someone abandoned in my room." He tried very hard to be all hardcore and badass but he was clearly just a puppy and Axel didn't have it in him to even try and fuck that guy. He didn't fuck without consent and somehow, it struck him as a dead end,
He scanned the room, just trying to see if Hartley was about somewhere. "Besides, it never ends well for me to try and get it on the normal way."
"If you're so into Piper, just slam him against a wall and see where that gets you. Works for me." Usually did. It was a method of looking at someone intensely, then slamming them against the wall and then making sure they were into it before proceeding. He had needs and standards, but it had never been that much of an issue. "He's totally into you. They don't get that pissy otherwise."
"He hates me and if we start fucking, other people will hate him and then we'll have so many issues and unless you want to spend the next few years guarding us, maybe don't encourage us to date." What? That seemed like a fair enough warning to give. Given everything. Last time he tried, it ended as it ended so it was probably just not a great idea. "We're not going to happen. As much as I want us to, we're not. I'm sure you're just heartbroken over that."
"Oh yeah. I'm gonna go cry to Snart later." Mick stretched and looked around, then nodded to the exit. "You want to take a walk? Because I've got some training to do after this feast and Snart said I should walk with you, so. Let's walk."
"I'm with you all day for the sake of my ass so you wanna walk, we can walk." Axel hopped to his feet and smiled, hands in his pockets and sticking as close to Mick as he could without basically holding onto him. "You can show me how to get less scrawny and I can compliment how hot you look lifting weights."
