"Oh cool, I'd offer to come with and help but I really want a pokedex and I need some more balls too, if I want to ever watch anything." So far he didn't and he hadn't but he didn't think pokeballs were a bad idea. If he had an injured pokemon and needed to get it somewhere fast, it seemed like a cool way of pulling that off without having to carry one of his guys. Or if this egg turned out to be scary as all hell, it'd be handy to have a place to put the little monster.
"The rumour is one of the guys working at STAR labs has made like a new pokeball. Sounds amazing." Of course the rumours also included that the pokeball kept exploding but hey, nothing was perfect.
"Cisco Ramon, yes. He makes new things all the time. Call me when he makes something that works." No, Hartley didn't sound impressed. He had spent too many years working there and ultimately, he mostly regretted it. But he had learned a few things that definitely came in handy now in his research to help right the world, little by little. "But maybe I'll meet you again some time, Barry Allen."
Hartley pulled his pokécom out and held it out, waiting for Barry to do the same. "You really can call me if you ever need help. I'm not a trainer any more, I suppose I'm somewhere between researcher and nothing much, but at least I know a lot."
"I hear he has some cool ideas, I mean Wells must like him for a reason, right?" He couldn't be that awful at his job. If he was then why did he even have the job? Barry just sort of assumed Hartley had heard of this Cisco dude and apparently he was really good at making tech, even if some of it was mostly bugged right now and his plans online seemed pretty solid. Just sometimes a little overly complicated.
Barry pulled out his com and held it out. "I'm mostly a researcher these days, I'd like to be a trainer but I need way more pokemon. But hey, maybe next time I see you, I'll actually have a team."
"Wells might just like him because he has pretty hair. But no, you're right. Cisco is smart, pretty face aside, he's got ideas. He just tends not to think them through enough and then he never expects the consequences." Hartley shrugged his shoulders, then decidedly pushed thoughts of Cisco aside to focus on getting Barry's number into his com.
"I used to be a trainer. I was good, for my age. But these days, it's not what I want. I still have my badges, but sometimes I wish I didn't. I don't know. Better to focus on the mysteries."
"I always focus on the mysteries so man, hit me up if anything weird happens. Once I get my pokedex, me and Scully will just be wandering together so feel free to hit us up. Maybe you can actually meet him next time." Clearly Scully wasn't still asleep because the hot dogs and the pan they were in had disappeared into the tent but he knew his cubone was shy and he was not going to harsh the poor guy into coming out.
"As long as you love your pokemon, I don't think it matters what you decide to be." Barry grinned, finishing up the number trade and slipping his com away. "Are you sure you don't want to crash here?"
"No, sorry. Nothing personal, but my partner doesn't like people and he's been creeping on the edge for the last half hour, I can't leave him hanging." Hartley whistled, making all of his pokémon look at him. Echo nuzzled Barry one more time before running over to climb on top of Hartley's shoulder and Reverb shook himself until Mumble had to let go, then pushed her in Hartley's direction as well. With a roll of his eyes, Hartley got to his feet just as Reverb flew up into the sky. "I'll see you around, Barry."
"Sure, I'll see you around." Barry picked up the water from the hot dogs and threw it onto the fire, putting it out safely before he turned on his flash light and shined in towards Hartley. "Stay safe and hit me up if something weird happens. I'm all about the weird." ... Well, he had worse lines he'd ended on. Barry shrugged it off and crawled back into his tent to make sure Skully was okay.
